Ellen

This was written while Chicago was still living at Xenophon Farm, owned by my friends Janice and Elaine Kachavos. Without their generosity I would not own this wonderful horse. He was a 'project horse' destined to be a school horse, but Chicago had other ideas. It is one of those things, when a horse and a rider meet and know they belong together. At their farm we had access to the trails on Mount Toby, and a wonderful outdoor jumping course. Now he lives with his girlfriend Grace in Hatfield, largely due to my disability, which makes riding a bit more complex. Despite his somewhat wild nature, and the fall that left me no longer part of the world of the temporarily able bodied, he is a horse with great character. In his defense, the fall was my fault, I was over- jumping him, and he caught a hind leg and fell, our faces crashed together, leading to injuries for both of us. He still is a wild ride, yet careful not to drop me, a truly wonderful partner.

This year we walked in honor of my mom's recent death from Ovarian Cancer. There were three groups, the EKA, the JFK student council, and the O Ambassadors. Together we all raised some serious bucks. It was a truly beautiful experience, one that allowed me to shoo away some of my sorrow. I appreciate all the work that the various teams put into walk, and look forward to walking again in the future. The only drawback was that I got some kind of hideous bacterial infection from the dunk tank. Oh well. It was fun to be in the dunk tank, and despite the infection, I would have stayed in that tank for an hour or more as there seemed to be lots of people ready to put me in the water. Thank you all, for the fund raising, the organizing, the dunking, and all the laughs.
