I thoroughly enjoyed this story. From being in a family with a handicapped member, I know disabilities can draw all sorts of attention, but from most of my experiences, it is usually in a friendly or supporting manner, not aggressive or hostile. Her accusations of the dogs being 'abused' are far from sane, I think anyone with a service animal treats their companion with the utmost in care and respect. I agree with your points on PETA and other over-the-top environmental or animal rights 'activists.' There are people who actually care about the issues, like most sensible individuals with a fairly progressive demeanor. Then there are those that feel the need to strut their chest, trying to prove about how they care about these issues more than you do, and will do anything to make sure they are the dominant force. Your example of the Boston dog show is an instance of where to support an ideology, they are in reality doing much more harm than good. The crazed woman from your in-store confrontation might have been trying to boast in a similar way, or maybe just had some kind of psychosis.
In either case, I feel people would get a long a lot better sometimes if they talked less and thought more.

Anyways, hope you make it through the Winter. Here on the edge of Florence/Westhampton it clocked in at -11F, I'm sure Conway was even colder. But there will be more chilly nights to come. I'm still happy to write for your site sometime, if you are still interested. Keep in touch!

I sent something to your email address, but if that doesn't come through let me know and I'll figure something else out.

This year we walked in honor of my mom's recent death from Ovarian Cancer. There were three groups, the EKA, the JFK student council, and the O Ambassadors. Together we all raised some serious bucks. It was a truly beautiful experience, one that allowed me to shoo away some of my sorrow. I appreciate all the work that the various teams put into walk, and look forward to walking again in the future. The only drawback was that I got some kind of hideous bacterial infection from the dunk tank. Oh well. It was fun to be in the dunk tank, and despite the infection, I would have stayed in that tank for an hour or more as there seemed to be lots of people ready to put me in the water. Thank you all, for the fund raising, the organizing, the dunking, and all the laughs.
